Our first annual Celebrate the Children fundraising event, held on September 27th, was an awesome fun-filled day for Mama Hill's Help and the Watts community. With the support of our sponsors, partners and volunteers, we attacted over 300 guests to our event, and raised over $14,400 in cash and in-kind donations!
Mama Hill's Help used the donations to prepare the Cookies for school with backpacks, personal hygene products, clothes, bus passes, and school supplies, as well as for operating costs and funding future programs. In addition to a variety of food, activities and entertainment, attendees at the event were also offered free flu shots and basic physical exams, as well as coupons for $5 dental cleanings and x-rays.
More importantly, the event accomplished our vision, which was to bring everyone together in love. Guests from a wide variety of backgrounds, races, religions and creeds were there, and of course it was also inter-generational! Since that was our heart's desire, it's worth more than a million dollars to accomplish this. Money is powerful, but love is more powerful.
We have many, many people we want to thank for helping us with Celebrate the Children, and so little room! Here are just a few folks we'd like to give honorable mention to...
The Planning Committee who worked very hard to build this event from scratch. Especially our Committee Chair, Dr. Victoria Radel for hosting every meeting, organizing our efforts, and fundraising all at the same time!
All of the Rotary Clubs who participated in the event and fundraised: Crenshaw-Watts, Downtown LA, Lennox-Hawthorne, Lomita-Torrance Airport, Playa Venice, Redondo Beach, and Torrance-Del Amo
Our friends at St. Francis who always donate their time and money to help out: Jayne Bray, Mother Sarah, Mother Paula, the Henebry and Gossett Families, and many others
9th District Councilman Curren Price and Joyce Stewart for coming through in the final hour and bringing everything together
Peacenow.com for providing us with a beautiful peace mural to paint together at the event
Rhoda Robinson and David Robinson Hicks of Team Unitedand Global Campus of Brotherhood Through the Arts for producing our entertainment for the day
All of the organizations, small businesses and community members that had booths at the event offering much needed services and educational materials to our guests
All of the individuals and organizations that donated wonderful items for our raffle and silent auction
All the entertainers who donated their time to make the event a fun and culturally rich experience
Praise God, and thank you for doing your part to make it happen.
